Cassie Bittle
for City Council

“As a 14-year resident of the downtown Westchester community, I am proud to both live and work in Ward 3. In 2012, my family took over ownership of KC Steakhouse, a landmark established in 1939. My journey into local politics began in 2018 when I could no longer stay silent about the challenges our businesses on F Street were facing. Searching for solutions, I began attending city council meetings and joined the Downtown Business Association. From that very first roundtable meeting with local business owners and residents, I knew my true passion lay in community service.

After deepening my understanding of our city through my appointment to the Bakersfield Planning Commission, as well as serving as a board member for Flood Ministries and the jail bed task force, I feel ready to step up. I am asking my fellow Ward 3 residents for the opportunity to take a seat at the table. Together, we can tackle the uncomfortable conversations facing our community.

Through accountability on our streets, fiscal responsibility, and support for lasting economic growth, we can protect public safety and preserve our vital services.”

“This is a critically important time – these next 4 years – for our council to pay close attention to the specific and timely needs of this city, the financing, the programs that need close surveillance to ensure every dime of city taxes is spent wisely and are of value to the people who pay the taxes and live in our town.

With Councilman Ken Weir’s thoughtful comments as he announced that he will not seek re-election, I echo his concern that we need council members ‘who believe in a philosophy of prioritizing police presence and a conservative fiscal platform.’

As a longtime businesswoman and city planning commissioner, I agree completely with those sentiments. I look forward to a strong campaign with the support of the people I’ve worked and served with in Bakersfield and with the people I’ve worked and served with in Bakersfield and with the people who make up the voters from the 3rd Ward.”

“Our issues are not resolved, but it’s the communication that’s been able to move us forward and not end up like places like Los Angeles. It is a lot worse there, but we are moving forward. There are still issues here, we still see homelessness on a daily basis, but we’re getting the services [we need]. Our next step is getting a jail and being able to hold actual criminals accountable for their crimes.”
